What is the Digital Product Passport?
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a tool that gathers and shares key information about a product throughout its entire lifecycle, from design to recycling. Driven by the European Union as part of the Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan, this initiative seeks to transform how we produce and consume, promoting sustainability and transparency.
What information does a DPP contain?
Each DPP includes data about:
- Origin: Where do the materials come from?
- Composition: What is the product made of?
- Sustainability: What is its environmental impact?
- Repairability: Can it be repaired or upgraded?
- Recyclability: How can it be recycled at the end of its useful life?
Who does it apply to?
The DPP will be mandatory for several sectors, including:
- Batteries: From 2027
- Textiles: From 2027
- Electronics: From 2028
- Construction: From 2029
Benefits of the DPP
- For consumers: Informed decisions based on transparent data
- For companies: Competitive advantage through sustainability
- For the environment: Reduction of waste and promotion of circular economy
- For regulators: Better traceability and compliance verification
